WMRMYC Inc Summer Scratch Series RD 3, Manly Harbour - 3rd January 2016

RACE REPORT– Well the first scratch round for the New Year, round 3 for the summer series. 10 skippers attended the day at Manly on Sunday 3rd January 2016.  Cloudy 25 Degree morning, light to moderate winds.

A few people were away - probably still recovering from Xmas/New Year.

At the start of the day, the conditions were light, everyone opting for a bit of twist in their sails.  We started with a port course with up and back twice. The starts were a bit tricky as it was dead low tide but by the end of the day there was plenty of room for starting.  We were fortunate with the south east breeze we could head out into the middle of the channel to the top mark - the angle of the breeze was fairly consistent all day.

Great to see John Gower & Tom Pursiheimo sailing again.  Bradley, Andrew, John & Tom all sailed consistently throughout the day.  The top 4 finishers (myself, Brett, Scott & Tony) were always near the front and was a pleasure to sail alongside them and soak in the knowledge.

Big thanks to Dennis for PRO and Scott for dragging the boat down each meet and both guys for setting up the course. Also thanks to John McLachlan and the committee for running the computer games (scorings).  I think we all need to learn from today on how well it was run and all penalties were done ASAP.  It was a pleasure to sail with everyone.  Let’s all try to promote the club and the sport and encourage each other to improve our sailing and knowledge of the rules.

All in all I think everyone sailed well and had an enjoyable morning.  Hope to see you all in a fortnight’s time.
